Andy Irvine & Quilty

Andy Irvine & Quilty

About the show

Swedish band Quilty and Irish musician Andy Irvine join together to present a collaboration that brings together Irish and Swedish traditional music. Quilty is widely regarded as the leading Irish folk band in Scandinavia, while Irvine is one of Ireland’s most respected singers and musicians, with a career spanning more than 55 years. Together, they offer a strong blend of experience, tradition, and cross-cultural music.

Formed in 1993, Quilty has toured extensively in Sweden, Germany, and Norway and has worked with choirs and symphony orchestras. In 2018, the band marked its 25th anniversary with a fan-voted “Best of Quilty” tour. In 2020, Quilty was nominated Band of the Year at Sweden’s Folk & World Music Gala. Since then, they have toured with Out on the Ocean, a program of sea songs, emigration ballads, and maritime-themed music from Irish and Scottish traditions.

Andy Irvine is known for his work with Sweeney’s Men, Planxty, Patrick Street, Mozaik, and Usher’s Island. He has also built a long solo career, performing Irish traditional songs, Balkan-influenced music, and his own compositions. His work has had a major influence on Irish traditional and folk musicians.

In 2023, Quilty invited Andy Irvine to join their 30th anniversary tour of Sweden. The sold-out tour led to continued collaboration, with joint concerts now combining Irish and Swedish traditional music.
