'BEACONS' at TSEAC - Artist's Talk and Demonstration

About the event

An exhibition of fine-art etchings by Susan Early charting a journey around Ireland’s coast through its lighthouses and towers.

Susan Early is a visual artist, printmaker and architect. She is a member of Graphic Studio Dublin where she creates etchings, using aquatint on a single copper plate to produce subtle fine-art prints of tone and colour. Through these prints, Susan Early examines lighthouses and martello towers as enduring maritime landmarks - structures shaped by their landscapes, responsive to the elements and emblematic of protection, navigation and resilience at the meeting point of land and sea.

Susan’s original fine-art prints are made by etching an image onto a copper plate, inking up this plate and printing it onto damp acid-free paper.

She will show some original sketches created while touring the country, and the materials used for making the plates. She will also bring a number of the etched plates, describing the process of etching which takes place in the printmaking studio-Graphic Studio Dublin. She will then demonstrate the inking of the plates in layers and the printing of the etching on a small travel press onto paper. The printed image that results is the exact reverse of the image on the plate.

This event is free but booking is advisable as spaces are limited.
