Bray's History + Culture Tour

Bray's History + Culture Tour

What to expect

On the ‘Bray’s History and Culture’ tour you will learn about

  • Bray's prehistoric history and surprising Roman links
  • Its 12th century church ruins and Napoleonic Martello Tower
  • The homes of famous writers such as James Joyce, Oscar Wilde and Arthur Conan Doyle
  • How the train developed Bray into a Victorian tourism powerhouse
  • Its role in the First World War, the 1916 Rising and its connections to Michael Collins
  • How the town became the centre of film making in Ireland

The tours begin at Bray Train Station, wind along the seafront, and finish at the Seafront bandstand.

The route is approximately 3 kilometres (2 miles) long and is relatively flat, making it easily walkable for participants of all fitness levels.

The tours are easily accessible via public transport, and visitors are strongly encouraged to use it where possible, as paid parking along Bray Seafront is limited.

If you are travelling by car, we recommend using the town centre car parks at Herbert Road and Bray Central.

Designated disabled parking bays are also available throughout the town. Please plan your journey, arrive early, and park responsibly to avoid traffic disruption, impacting local residents, or blocking emergency vehicles.
