Explore the social history of one of Ireland’s earliest public housing developments and the surrounding Benburb Street area. Uncover the lives, struggles and transformation of a historic Dublin social housing scheme, shaped by 140 years of social change. Visitors will gain insights into the lives of past residents, the development of the neighbourhood, and the historical significance of the area through an engaging presentation taking place in the local community setting. This event is a drop-in, and the curators will be there to discuss the exhibition, process of curation and the wider project.

Accessibility Information

  • All galleries in Collins Barracks are fully accessible. The site has three lifts, located in the east corner servicing floors one to three of the decorative arts section of the museum. There are two lifts in the Soldiers and Chiefs exhibition.
  • Accessible toilets are located in the main reception, the ground floor of the Soldiers and Chiefs Exhibition, and in the Riding School (temporary gallery).
  • Mobile stools are available upon request from the Reception Desk.
  • Wheelchairs are available from the Reception Desk on request. Please call ahead to reserve one on +353 1 6777444.
  • There are seating areas available in the majority of galleries.
  • Guide and Assistance Dogs are welcome.
  • Please note that lighting in some exhibitions is low to address conservation concerns around certain artefacts.
  • There are touchable exhibits within the Museum. Please ask a staff member or attendant to help you locate these in the Museum.
