Dark Dublin, Dracula, Bram Stoker & Other Horrors

Dark Dublin, Dracula, Bram Stoker & Other Horrors

About the event

Bram Stoker may be Ireland's most famous writer worldwide — even rivalling James Joyce, though that's a debate for another day. Building on a lineage of Irish horror writers, Stoker gave the world Dracula, a tale of devilishness that has gripped the global imagination like no other work of fiction.

This walk explores Stoker's work against his own era and the millennia of Irish stories of evil spirits and our uneasy pact with the Underworld. A thousand years of foreign occupation left Dublin steeped in blood, fear and persecution — darkness that fed the imagination. We'll revel in his predecessors too: Charles Maturin, Joseph Sheridan Le Fanu, and Oscar Wilde, each conjuring their own vision of the Other World.
