Truly DiVine and Her Handsome Trio bring you Doris Day: A Date with the Girl Next Door
Join singer, actress and entertainer Truly DiVine for an intimate show filled with the songs and stories of Doris Day’s life, dressed in petticoats and candy smiles. Accompanied by the finest Irish jazz gentlemen, guided by guitarist Eamonn Moran, Truly will bring Doris back to life. You are welcome to dress up, sing along and be transported back into sweet glamour. But, beware: Doris may not be the “la-dee-da happy gal” you thought you knew…
Lineup:
A main act from these early days is still going strong now: The Bugle Babes, a 1940’s three-part-harmony group clad in vintage dresses and seamed stockings. They are still touring the country, adding style and grace to any occasion with their smooth harmonies.
Truly created this Doris Day show in 2014, at a time when she also ran a show around Marlene Dietrich and other strong female Hollywood stars. Intrigued by these strong independent women, Truly delighted in telling their stories through songs, keeping their spirit and strength alive.
About Close Your Eyes (self-published album)
★★★ “Dutch-born, Dublin-resident Burlesque artist Truly Divine (we have a hunch that’s not her real name) has emerged over the past five years as one of the more convincing of the rash of Irish singers channelling Ella Fitzgerald, Billie Holiday, et al. Divine’s live shows celebrate the frothier end of that tradition (think Blossom Dearie meets Doris Day), mixing flirty theatricality and an authentic sense of period with precise vocals and an attention to the musical details of the songs, ably abetted by pianist Josh Johnston. This 14-song selection from those shows, including lesser-heard standards like Down with Love and This Girls in Love with You, won’t change the world, but is nonetheless a poised and smile-inducing survey of an abidingly popular form.” – Cormac Larkin, The Ticket in The Irish Times, 2016
