About the film

Christopher Nolan’s spectacular adaptation of Homer’s epic poem follows Odysseus, king of Ithaca, on his fraught voyage home after the Trojan War. He and his shipmates run into strange and dangerous obstacles - including a cyclops, Sirens and vengeful gods - that turn their voyage into a years-long fight for survival. Back in Ithaca, Odysseus’ wife Penelope fends off the increasingly aggressive advances of suitors determined to take the king’s place, while the couple’s son Telemachus sets off on his own journey to find his long-absent father. With extraordinary cinematography and production design, as well as an ensemble cast full of contemporary cinema’s finest actors, The Odyssey is one of Christopher Nolan’s most breathtaking and accomplished films yet.

‘This is a film with thrilling ambition, boldness, seriousness, generosity and flair.’

★★★★★ Peter Bradshaw, The Guardian

‘This is a film that you want to see, and see in the cinema, not just to see it but to experience it in all its glory. Haunting and breathtaking, The Odyssey is cinema at its best.’

★★★★★ Cara O’Doherty, Irish Examiner

‘This is an epic, mythic spectacle that honours its ancient Greek source material, with its monsters and magic, while also addressing more topical themes of exile, war trauma and survivor’s guilt’

Wendy Ide, The Observer
