Opportunities to hear either artist on an Irish stage is rare; to experience them side by side in concert is exceptional. Following recent performances by Thomas Hampson and Renée Fleming with Boston Symphony Orchestra of John Adams’s Nixon in China, they bring their incomparable artistry to scenes from the “gripping human drama” (The Guardian) with National Symphony Orchestra Ireland. 

Hailed by Time as “the people’s diva,” Renée Fleming is long revered for the radiance and refinement of her voice while Thomas Hampson, “America’s foremost baritone” (The New York Times) is universally admired for his intellectual depth and commanding stage presence. 

Beethoven’s Fidelio Overture sets the tone of this politically charged programme with its spirit of liberation and resolve before we hear his triumphant ‘Eroica’ Symphony, a monumental work of vision, heroism and dramatic intensity, marking Beethoven’s 200th anniversary year at the National Concert Hall.

This is a concert of extraordinary distinction, with two of the world’s greatest vocal artists of our time, together with National Symphony Orchestra Ireland under Principal Conductor Alexander Shelley, for what will be one of the most anticipated concerts of the season.
