Berlioz The Damnation of Faust
The season concludes in spectacular fashion with Berlioz’s dramatic masterpiece The Damnation of Faust. Blending opera, oratorio and symphony, the work brings Goethe’s legendary tale vividly to life in music of dazzling colour and intensity.
American tenor and “vocal star” (The Times) Paul Appleby takes the title role as Faust while renowned Czech bass-baritone and ‘Met favourite’ Adam Plachetka leads as Méphistopheles.
Described as having a “luminous standout” by The New York Times, two-time Grammy Award-winning mezzo-soprano Sasha Cooke embodies Marguerite while critically acclaimed Irish baritone Seán Boylan takes on the role of Brander.
Joined by National Symphony Chorus Ireland, National Symphony Orchestra Ireland under Antony Hermus deliver a powerful and fittingly dramatic finale to the season and opening celebration of the Festival of Voice 2027.
