Off to Rehearsal
About the film
“If someone, in 50 years-time, can sit back, relax and
enjoy this film, it’ll be a job well done.” Kieran Galvin.
A long-time member of a Newbridge Drama Group, Kieran made the decision in 2018 to interview past and present members. This small passion project soon took on a life of its own becoming a snapshot of how people from all around Ireland, and beyond, were linked together by the same small local drama group in Co. Kildare.
The film examines how some of the members came to Kildare, where they were from originally and, in some cases, why they eventually left. There’s also room for Newbridge natives as they reminisce about growing up in ‘old Newbridge’.
This documentary film contains all original music, with contributions from Ari Sorilos, Colm Galvin, Eimear Dempsey, Caroline Malone, Willie Butler, Brenda Malone, and Kieran Galvin. Newbridge band The Moon and Sixpence also feature with Dying To Live, written by band member Michael O’Connell. There will also be older archive footage including comedy sketches, with a smidgen of nonsense thrown in!
This film, without doubt, is “Homemade in County Kildare” and is one for the local archives.
Proceeds from this event will be donated to Newbridge Parish Lourdes Fund
