Chapel Royal
Overview
A beautiful Chapel Royal is one of the finest Gothic revival interiors in Ireland and is situated next to the Record Tower. Designed by Francis Johnston, it took 7 years to build it and it was completed in 1814, but due to construction faults, it had to be rebuilt. The Chapel Royal in Dublin Castle was the official Church of Ireland chapel of the Household of the Lord Lieutenant of Ireland from 1814 until the creation of the Irish Free State in 1922. The creation of the new Irish state terminated the office of Lord Lieutenant and British government control in Ireland.
Chapel Royal will amaze you by the vaulting and particularly by plasterwork, carved oaks and galleries, limestone heads and the coat-of-arms of all the Viceroys.
