Travel back to the city in Viking times. Discover what life was like on board a Viking warship, see the weaponry and learn the skills of being a Viking warrior. Try on Viking clothes, become a slave and stroll down a noisy street. Visit a smoky and cramped Viking house and learn about the myths and mysteries surrounding the Vikings and their legacy.
Step into Medieval Dublin. Witness the sights, sounds and smells of the busy city. Learn about crime and punishment, death and disease and even toothache remedies of 700 years ago. Enjoy the spicy aromas and so much more in the medieval fair, learn to play medieval games, visit a rich merchant’s kitchen and walk along a bustling medieval street.
Find out about Dublin’s rich past. Discover how we are influenced by the Viking and Medieval era. See artefacts found in Dublin on permanent loan from the National Museum of Ireland, including those from the famous Wood Quay excavations. Take a flying visit over the Medieval city and immersive yourself in a spectacular audio-visual experience, a story of one man’s life growing up in Medieval Dublin.
Finish by climbing the original Medieval tower, 96 steps to the top with spectacular views of the city. See Dublin from a new perspective and come away knowing more about its citizens through the ages!
Dublinia is the Latin name for Dublin, so as the names suggests, this attraction is all about Dublin. Situated a step away from Christ Church, Dublinia is an attraction, where you meet the Vikings, look at Dublin from a new perspective and discover Dublin’s residents through the ages. Here you can get into the Vikings spirit: try on Viking clothes, become a slave, visit the Viking house, learn their alphabet and listen their literature.
Turn the clock back 700 years and discover what medieval Dublin was like: learn of warfare, death and disease, crime and punishments. See the medieval city, medieval street and dive into these times through sounds, smells and signs.
You can also see the medieval artifacts- a medieval woman and skeleton is one of them. Investigate Dublin’s first maps and figure out how Medieval times and the Vikings impacted today’s life.
St. Michael’s Tower in Dublinia
After discovering Viking and Medieval Dublin, remember you’re not done. Newly reconstructed St.Michale’s Tower back then belonged to St. Michael’s Church. Investigate an exhibition at the Tower base and get up the 95 steps to the very top, bringing you to St. Michael’s Tower viewing platform. The cut stone tower was built in 17th century and it provides you with the stunning Dublin views with the River Liffey and mountains in the background. Beautiful!
It’s the perfect all family day out idea, as kids of all ages love to get to know the past- to dress up and play medieval games, try on helmets and trace your name in Viking- it’s very engaging. We have to mention- it is very interactive, where kids and adults are allowed to touch and play with objects and exhibitions. Everything is done so well, that you actually feel part of the Viking or Medieval area. Get the taste of that time! A must to see place in Dublin with lots of history, fun and entertainment.
