Malahide Castle was the home of the Talbot family from 1185 to 1973, when the last Lord Talbot died. The central Norman tower house is the oldest part of the castle. On the ground floor is an interesting Talbot Family Exhibition and interpretation area.
Tours of the upper floors are given by experienced guides and last about 45 minutes. The house is furnished with beautiful period furniture together with an extensive collection of Irish portrait paintings, mainly from the National Gallery. Highlights of the tour include the magnificent Oak Room with its dark panelling and furniture dating back to the 1600s.
Another gem is the Great Hall, built in 1495 for banquets, which contains portraits of generations of the Talbot family.
A magnificent Malahide Castle dates back to 1175 making it one of the oldest castles in Ireland and was home for Talbot family for more than 800 years. The Talbots were one of Ireland’s most prominent families, were involved in some of the key moments and events in Irish history.
Malahide Castle’s interpretive area on the ground floor is a great way to find out a little bit more about the castle and it’s rich history ,the facinating story of the Talbot Family, including some of the ghostly residents! The information shares the life of Talbot family members and even some very personal glimpses in the castle.
Talbot Botanic Gardens is a must to see- there are 4 botanic gardens in Ireland, and one of them is within the Malahide Castle grounds.

Otther attractions: Discovery Room, Project Roomseven glasshouses, over 5000 species of plants, lots of green area, wild life and trees are believed to be 400 years. There is also a nice children playground, coffee shop, visitor centre and craft shop.
Beautiful castle set on 270 acres was a big part of Medieval Irish history and witness some important moments of Irish stormy history. The castle is open for public and it’s one of the most liked attractions in Co. Dublin and offers different things to do for all family.
Malahide Castle and Gardens is open daily to visitors from 9:30am to 5:30pm. We are closed on 24, 25 and 26 December.
