The Schoolhouse for Art is based in a 200 year old school building in the heart of Wicklow’s picturesque village of Enniskerry. Offering a wide variety of classes and weekend art breaks to suit all levels.

Since 1818 a small schoolhouse nestled under the gaze of the clock tower in the heart of the picturesque village of Enniskerry in Ireland’s ‘garden county’ Wicklow. This was a school for children, a house of learning where young minds explored, examined and recited the rhymes and reasons of the unfolding world. For almost two centuries its solid walls absorbed the chants and childish chatter of thousands of young voices. The Schoolhouse for Art is in essence a facility for the study and exploration of arts and crafts. Located in ‘the old schoolhouse’ in the heart of Enniskerry village it is an exhibition space and a meeting place where images and ideas mingle. It caters for all ages and all abilities. The former school playground is a natural arena facing the clock tower, a three-dimensional canvas to display an evolving gallery of large pieces of sculpture. The Schoolhouse for Art is also a host to visiting artists from across the globe who want to paint the surrounding inspiring countryside and experience Irish hospitality. A diverse team of dedicated art and craft tutors, who are all professional and experienced artists, provide a program of classes and workshops throughout the year. There is a wide range of classes on offer in a variety of mediums: oils, watercolours, pastels, woodcarving, stained glass, life drawing and clay sculpture to name a few. Also on offer is the opportunity for students to spend a whole weekend painting, sculpting, drawing or generally being creative in one of Ireland’s most picturesque villages. The gallery exhibits works by visiting artists as well as works by tteachers and on occasion class exhibitions. The Gallery space can also be hired out for external exhibitions as can our Sculpture garden in our former schoolyard at the front of the school.
