Discover the Uilleann Pipes at TSEAC

What to expect

Come along for a fascinating, hands-on introduction to one of Ireland’s most distinctive and beautiful traditional instruments, with expert pipers Bill Haneman and Éamonn Galldubh.

Whether you’re completely new to the uilleann pipes or simply curious to discover how they work, you’ll have the opportunity to pick up the pipes, have a go for yourself and learn some of the basics in a relaxed and welcoming setting. No previous experience is necessary, and all ages are welcome.

The event will also feature a live demonstration of the instrument, followed by a Q&A where you can ask questions about the pipes, the music and the craft behind them.

Éamonn Galldubh is an acclaimed uilleann piper, composer and educator who has toured and recorded with an extraordinary range of artists and ensembles, including Clannad, Moya Brennan, Riverdance, Damien Dempsey, Afro Celt Sound System, Celtic Woman, Kíla and the RTÉ Concert Orchestra. He has also completed a PhD exploring the use of the uilleann pipes in baroque music.

Bill Haneman began playing the uilleann pipes in his native North Carolina in the 1980s and has been making pipes full-time in Skerries, Co. Dublin since 2007. A renowned pipe maker, historian and restorer, Bill has worked on historically significant instruments and is widely respected for his knowledge of the craft and history of the uilleann pipes.

Together, Bill and Éamonn offer a unique opportunity to hear, explore and have a go at this remarkable Irish instrument – whether you’re a lifelong lover of traditional music or simply fancy trying something completely new.
