About the event

18th century, Venice. Cecilia lives at the Ospedale della Pietà, a strict orphanage for girls, famous for its exceptional music ensembles. Despite being a talented violinist, Cecilia does not see much of a future for herself, except through an arranged marriage. But things change when an ambitious composer arrives to become the orphanage’s new music teacher. His name is Vivaldi....

Inspired by the novel Stabat Mater, world-renowned opera director Damiano Michieletto’s Primavera provides a fictionalised account of some of the 30 years that Vivaldi spent as resident composer and violin teacher at Venice’s Ospedale della Pietà, and where he composed most of his major works. Combining luscious cinematography with an inspired score, Michieletto’s feature debut is vibrant and powerful cinema.
