Singalong Songbook Presents: Keep It Country – 100 Years of the Grand Ole Opry

About the show

The Singalong Songbook goes Country!

Keep It Country: 100 Years of the Grand Ole Opry looks back over 100 years of this multi-million dollar institution and the trailblazing performers who stepped onto its iconic stage.

It was an insignificant radio station in Nashville, Tennessee began broadcasting a one-hour programme on Saturday nights. It was called WSN Barn Dance and it featured local musicians playing the traditional hillbilly music of the Appalachian Mountains, much of it brought across the Atlantic by Irish emigrants fleeing the Great Famine. To the surprise and delight of the managers, the programme took off…and how! Listeners tuned in from all across the USA. The name was changed to the Grand Ole Opry and it made Nashville the centre of the country music world.

The Songbook team sprinkle their trademark magic over the story with hit after hit, infused with the rhinestone sparkle of Tammy Wynette, Hank Locklin’s trademark twang, the velvet strains of Jim Reeves, John Denver’s classics and the heartfelt anthems of Garth Brooks!

Keep It Country – 100 Years of the Grand Ole Opry looks back on a century of country music.
