James Joyce’s only children’s story, commonly known as The Cat and the Devil or The Cat of Beaugency, was first written in a letter to his four-year-old grandson Stephen on 10 August 1936. In this playful tale, Joyce explains the story behind the cat of Beaugency with humour, charm and imagination.
