The Last Witch Bridget Cleary
About the show
The Last Witch Bridget Cleary is a solo performance based on the real events surrounding the death of Bridget Cleary in Tipperary in 1895, often described as Ireland’s last witch burning. Through storytelling and historical detail, the piece examines the beliefs, tensions and social conditions that led to her killing.
Blending folklore, land politics and history, the performance explores how fear and superstition can take hold within a community. At its centre is Bridget herself – reclaimed from myth and retold with clarity and humanity.
Intimate and thought-provoking, the work invites audiences to reflect on a past that still resonates today.
Duration: 45 mins followed by short Q&A session
Please note, this is a reduced capacity event due to expected building works on an adjacent KCC building, Newbridge Library. Riverbank Arts Centre’s seating plan may be subject to change to accommodate these works.
