A Sense of Place - Liz Johnson
Date: Wed 17 Jun – Sat 5 Sep
Location: dlr Mill Theatre, Dublin

Exhibition Concept:
The beauty of the world around Lemuire, be it land, sea or sky, or the play of light on still life, has inspired this artist to take up her brush to create these paintings on view at the dlr Mill Theatre Gallery.
Lemuire is a painter who loves the medium of paint, be it oil, pastel or acrylic. Over the years, many teachers have guided Lemuire’s technique of bringing the feeling of natural light into her work.
As is true of many artists, Plein Air painting plays an essential part in the evolution and growth of Lemuire’s art. The unpredictability of the constantly changing landscape, especially in Ireland, calls on her bold, energetic approach to the subject. Winter months, in their turn, present the opportunity for still life painting. Lemuire captures not only the mood and atmosphere of her subject but also her emotional reaction to it.
Present in this collection is a strong affinity for Post-Impressionism. We see distinct nods to Cézanne’s structured landscapes, Van Gogh’s rhythmic brushwork, and Monet’s light awareness. Lemuire demonstrates an excellent understanding of atmospheric light and spatial rhythm while thick, confident brushwork gives the oil paintings a wonderful tactile and engaging quality. Lemuire’s colour palette is vibrant – deep blues, luminous greens, purples blue shadows, the late-afternoon golds and pops of red abound.
