St Catherine's Park
Overview
St Catherine's Park sits in the grounds of St Catherine's Church on Thomas Street, in the Liberties. The park was once the church's burial ground, and today it is a peaceful green space just off one of Dublin's oldest streets.
The church in front of it is where Robert Emmet was executed in 1803.
History
The cemetery here dates back to 1552. The area is steeped in history and is best remembered for the execution of Robert Emmet, leader of the 1803 rising, on Thomas Street in front of the church. Burials stopped in 1894, and the cemetery was handed over to Dublin Corporation in 1969 to become a public park.
Getting there
The park is behind St Catherine's Church on Thomas Street, Dublin 8, about 15 minutes' walk from Christ Church. Saint Catherine's Church is in front of the park, and the Guinness Storehouse, Roe & Co Distillery and Pearse Lyons Distillery are a short walk west.
