Palmerstown Lower, Dublin
Just south of Dublin’s famous Strawberry Beds and near Palmerstown village, Waterstown Park was a family farm until the 1980s. The park is covered by the Liffey Valley Special Amenity Area Order and is one of the most ecologically important parks in Dublin. Close to Farmleigh Estate and the Phoenix Park as the crow flies, it consists of eight distinct habitats including woodland, wet grassland and mature hedgerows. The park is home to 300 species of plants, animals, birds and insects.
Waterstown Park has a 5km track used for walking, jogging and cycling. Tranquil walks can be enjoyed alongside the Liffey and the 19th-century millrace in the park.
In September 2019 a new playground was installed. This playground incorporates natural play, which has been proven to have benefits for children in terms of increasing well-being, developing imagination and allowing children to assess risk and develop their coping abilities. In addition, the playground was designed and audited to ensure access is possible for children of all types of abilities and an accessible picnic table has been installed on request following this audit.
