Guthanna Eile / Other Voices – 4 Bilingual (Irish/English) Drama Workshops
Date: Sat 10 Oct
Location: Whale Theatre, Greystones

Workshops: 10am – 12pm. Saturday 10th, 17th, 24th October, and 7th November 2026
Presentation in Theatre: 4 pm, Sunday 15th November
As part of the cultural celebration of Ireland’s EU Presidency 2026, The Whale Theatre is delighted to offer this exciting bilingual drama workshop opportunity to actors, performers and theatre makers. This is also open to those who enjoy performing and want to explore and improve your stage skills.
All levels of Spanish acceptable, as well as native Spanish speakers.
Through working with texts in Spanish as our inspiration, these practical workshops will explore ‘Echoes of Identity’ delivered by Sandra Villegas (founder and director of @thelatinspheretheatre as well as Dublin’s Instituto Cervantes Theatre Club).
Participants will have the opportunity to stage an improvised performance by exploring the work of playwright Alfonso Plou, El Volcán y la Marea (The Volcano And The Tide) and reflect on his literary vision, among other texts.
Drawing from Augusto Boal’s renowned methods—specifically the ‘Rainbow of Desire’ and the ‘Theatre of the Oppressed’—participants will also explore through improvisation how theatre can serve as a tool for social and personal change.
The play itself offers a space to discuss the dynamics of human relationships in a world isolated from social routines allowing the participants to delve into topics such as nationality and identity in which language itself will act as a focal point.
Participants will engage with the characters examining their situations, conflicts, emotional journeys, personalities, motivations as well as their emotional and social relationships with other characters.
Using text, voice, and body as engines of expression, participants will engage in staging an improvised piece to gain a deeper understanding of the themes of the play and other texts including their own ideas and creations.
Places are free but limited, so register early to avoid disappointment!
Supported by Culture Ireland, the EU Presidency Culture Programme, and Wicklow County Council
