Salt on her Tongue

Salt on her Tongue

About the show

When the harbour light appears through the fog, a ship is coming home. At its helm is Kate Tyrrell (1863/1821) sailor, businesswomen, patriot, mother and the first woman to be listed as owner and captain of a merchant ship in Irish and British waters. On her own terms she navigated through storms, war, and a world that told her a woman’ place was not at sea. She rebelled against the structures of the day and scandalized her society by keeping her own name on marriage. Her schooner was the first to fly the tricolour in a British harbour. Salt on her Tongue is a multi media theatre piece, where we meet mother and daughter reuniting through time to tell a remarkable story.
