Le Fanu Park

Le Fanu Park

Overview

Le Fanu Park is a large park in Ballyfermot, west Dublin, with seven soccer pitches, an outdoor gym and Ballyfermot Sports and Fitness Centre. Its best-known feature is the free skate, BMX and play park, opened in 2022.

The park is named after Sheridan Le Fanu, the Victorian writer of ghost stories.

Skate, BMX and play park

The skate and BMX park has bowls, ramps and transitions for beginners and experienced riders alike, next to a contoured playground with accessible equipment. Designed with local young people, it won the Public Space category of the RIAI Architecture Awards 2022. Bring a helmet.

History

Sheridan Le Fanu, the 19th-century author of Carmilla and The House by the Churchyard, had strong links with the neighbouring village of Chapelizod, and mentioned the "old tiled house" of Ballyfermot in his ghost stories.

Getting there

The park is on Le Fanu Road, Dublin 10, in Ballyfermot. Dublin Bus routes serve Ballyfermot Road and Kylemore Road. Kylemore Park and Markievicz Park are nearby, and the Phoenix Park is across the Liffey from Chapelizod.
