Constructed in 1729 by the British as the seat of the Irish Parliament, this elegant and striking building was the world’s first purpose-built Parliament house. Purchased in 1803 by Bank of Ireland, it is now headquarters to the Bank of Ireland, which purchased it when the parliament ceased to exit and had it rebuilt by Francis Johnston, the architect responsible for many of Georgian Dublin’s finest buildings. It now occupies a unique position in Irish banking history. It’s also unique, as it’s the only building in Ireland, without a window. You only can see window like features, which are filled with bricks, no glass. It’s believed that no windows meant more safety. An outstanding architecture cathes your attention and is worth a walk around. Go inside, to get the real wow factor. The old parliament room is something you’ll never forget- an outstanding room with decorative and identical features. Learn more about painful Irish path to independence from Britain.
