Belgrave Square

Belgrave Square

Overview

Belgrave Square is a park at the centre of a Victorian residential square in Rathmines, a few minutes from the village. It has a children's playground and fine mature trees, and is a favourite with local families.

Its lawns are framed by the red-brick terraces of the square.

History

The land was once a wasteland known as Church Fields. The square of houses around it was built from 1851, and the gardens stayed private until the mid 1970s, when Dublin Corporation acquired them and opened them as a local park.

Getting there

Belgrave Square is just east of Rathmines village, Dublin 6, between Rathmines Road and Ranelagh. Many Dublin Bus routes stop in Rathmines, and the Ranelagh and Beechwood Luas stops (Green Line) are about ten minutes' walk away. Rathmines Library is nearby.
