The New Theatre
Overview
Visit The New Theatre in Temple Bar, Dublin City was founded in 1997.
Situated in the centre of Dublin's historical and cultural quarter of Temple Bar, The New Theatre is an intimate hub of art and culture. Since 1997 it carved out a home for developing writers, actors, directors and technicians, and is now a place to hone their craft. The theatre has had countless debuts, festivals, revivals and world premieres. The shows are divergent, socially engaged, well attended and critically acclaimed.
The fact that productions always draw a full house despite taking place in a small 66-seat theater tucked away in the back of a bookstore speaks a lot about the caliber of the plays produced here.
Its close ties to the Dublin Fringe Festival and the fact that it encourages new theater are definitely to blame for this.
It all has a very strong sense of community: the artistic director selects plays by up-and-coming writers, a local creative team assists in the production and the direction of new performers, and friends of friends fill the seats.
Opening hours
Box office is open Tuesday – Friday 12.00pm – close (depending on show running time).
