72 Dame Street, Temple Bar
Despite its plush appearance, this isn’t the kind of place you visit for a traditonal, classy theatre show – and that’s exactly why it’s a local favourite. Performances are always a belter, whether it’s a musical dedicated to Ireland’s favourite nightclub, the annual Christmas pantomime or a top comedy act on tour. Expect just as much craic as any bar-hopping night out: entertaining shows always end with crowds dancing and cheering before migrating to the bar inside.
Opened in 1878 as a music hall, after years of rivalry with the Gaiety Theatre, the Olympia settled down to staging a very similar gamut of musicals, live bands and comedy.
