People's Park

On a Sunday, you'll be lucky to locate a patch of green in this coastal park because pushchairs and mismatched blankets will take up every available square inch.
Residents buy fruit from the market for picnics in the adjacent park after taking a morning stroll along the neighboring pier.
There is constant activity here.

Dún Laoghaire’s magnificent People’s Park is a beautifully landscaped oasis of calm a short stroll from Dún Laoghaire harbour. The park is popular with people of all ages, locals and visitors alike. Green, lush and well maintained gardens, a restaurant and café, lovely fountains and a fun children's playground make it a pleasant place to while away a sunny afternoon with the family.

The two hectare park is open to visitors every day but particularly comes to life every weekend as market vendors bring their colourful collections of arts, crafts and local produce to the park. Markets take place between 11am and 4pm every Sunday and offer shoppers an array of international flavours and artifacts with goods from around the world on offer – and of course lots of delicious locally grown organic Irish produce for sale as well.

The park’s playground provides a fun and safe place for kids to play and the elegant restaurant offers a quiet place to enjoy some relaxation and refreshments. Throughout the year the park is also a popular venue for live music acts and festivals.

The park was developed near the end of the 19th century by the town commissioners in the formal Victorian style, including wrought iron railings, stone walls, large gates and a bandstand typical of the Victorian era.
