Weaver Park

Weaver Park

Overview

Weaver Park is a neighbourhood park on Cork Street in the Liberties, with a skatepark, a playground, benches and a pergola. Opened in 2017, it was the first major project of the Liberties Greening Strategy and one of the first new public parks in the city centre in years.

The name remembers the Liberties' weaving trade, which began in this part of the city.

Skatepark and play

The skatepark was a local idea: skateboarders on Cork Street campaigned for it and worked with Dublin City Council on the design. It sits alongside a playground for younger children, lawns and seating under a pergola, making the park a meeting point for all ages.

History

The park is on the site of the Chamber Street flats, built in the 1970s and demolished in 2008. The Liberties' weaving industry, brought by Huguenot and other weavers, grew up in these streets, and the park takes its name from that history.

Getting there

Weaver Park is on Cork Street, Dublin 8, near Dolphin's Barn and the Coombe, about 15 minutes' walk from St Patrick's Cathedral. The Grand Canal is a short walk south, and St Patrick's Cathedral and Marsh's Library are close by.

Opening hours

Like most Dublin City Council parks, Weaver Park opens at 10am every day and closes around dusk, so closing time changes through the year:

  • January and December: 5pm
  • February and November: 5.30pm
  • March: 6.30pm, then 7.30pm once the clocks go forward
  • April and September: 8.30pm
  • May and August: 9.30pm
  • June and July: 10pm
  • October: 7.30pm, then 6.30pm once the clocks go back
