About the film

The programme brings together three films: Basma Alsharif’s We Began By Measuring Distance (2009), Rosalind Nashashibi’s Electrical Gaza (2015), and Oraib Toukan’s When Things Occur (2016) which focus on the impossibility of representing Gaza. Each film confronts, in a different way, this crisis of representation; the impossibility of communicating an experience shaped by siege, death, destruction, and separation when the available images themselves risk producing further distance.
