Royal Irish Academy of Music (Dublín) - Whyte Recital Hall 36-38 Westland Row Dublin 2
The Bloomsday Festival 2025 welcomes an evocative musical collaboration between Instituto Cervantes Dublin and the James Joyce Centre with "Words in Music: Los Versos Sáficos," a special concert event taking place on Monday 16, June at 19:00 h at the Royal Irish Academy of Music (RIAM). The event brings together leading Spanish-Danish artist Christina Rosenvinge, guitarist Amaia Miranda, and celebrated Irish traditional singer Cathy Jordan.
“Los Versos Sáficos” (The Sapphic Verses) is Rosenvinge’s latest project: an intimate musical cycle inspired by the ancient poetry of Sappho and culminating in, the unforgettable Molly Bloom’s feminist spirit from James Joyce’s Ulysses. Christina Rosenvinge is a leading figure in Spanish music, admired for her poetic vision, creative independence, and ability to merge sound and literature. Over four decades, she has built a singular career marked by artistic risk, emotional depth, and cultural relevance.
In this concert performed in Spanish with English-language introductions to provide literary and cultural context, Christina brings together the songs composed for the theatrical project Safo, bridging classical lyricism and modern song. The evening will conclude with a post-concert discussion featuring Rosenvinge, Jordan—renowned for her work with the traditional Irish group Dervish—and Katerina García, a Czech-Spanish vocalist and academic. The trio will reflect on the creative process behind adapting poetry into song, translating literary voices into music, and the contributions of women across these artistic forms.
This special concert brings powerful female voices to the Bloomsday Festival, blending poetry and music in a bold, contemporary way.
